I may not generally agree with those who support a straight-down-the-line conservative agenda (pro-life, pro-gun, pro-Jesus, pro-U.S. hegemony, etc.), but at least I can respect that they have a set of social and political values they stick to and believe in.
Which is more than can be said for the rich, selfish assholes who only buy into the GOP platform because they're afraid that anyone else would pose a threat to their comfortable lifestyle. I'm talking about the kind of people who don't much give a crap about war, national security, health care, unemployment, and so on because they live in towers so high that none of it really ever comes into contact with them -- certainly none of it more than the fear of losing the privilege of not having to care.*
In reference to that latter group, I give you last night's pissy, martini-soaked meeting of the New York Young Republicans.
The New York Post: Young GOPers: "O" the Pain/1.9.08
*These are the people, by the way, who typically go on to become high-ranking Republican politicians, à la anyone in the Bush family.
