The Right To Write

Seeing as how I rerouted a few wires in my brain a while back in an effort to prevent myself from even thinking about my unceremonious exit from CNN two years ago, let alone writing anything new about it, it took Votar to bring up a really great point about CNN's hiring of Erick Erickson.

He's the managing editor and a contributor over at Redstate.com who's made a whole shitload of rude and controversial comments in the past, right? It's ironic that they even gave him a job considering their draconian policy on employee blogging -- but the big question is this: Will they attempt to restrict what he says on his site from here on out? I'm going to assume the answer is no; it was probably agreed upon in advance that CNN will have no say in the content of his columns. Still, it'll be interesting to see whether Erickson tones down the bombastic online playground talk now that he's been pulled up to "the show."

Regardless, it's a win-win for him -- and more proof that CNN doesn't really have an issue with online writing as long as it's something (or coming from someone) they can use to their advantage.

By the way, this is a really good, well thought-out piece on the hiring of Erickson and what it might possibly mean for the political big picture:
