"Watch This"

Remember that LOLCatty picture of Barack Obama that circulated not long before the election, right about the time that a bunch of his supporters were having a conniption because they were suddenly having doubts about the way he was conducting his campaign and whether he could win the White House -- the one that said, "Everyone Chill the Fuck Out, I Got This"?

Who knows, I may live to regret this, but for some reason I really think that image needs to once again be circulated among the formerly faithful -- the people who think Obama's almost certainly going to sell them up the river on the health care reform initiative.

I say this because Obama has announced that he'll address the country before a joint session of Congress on September 9th. What I think this could mean -- what I'm hoping it means -- is that Obama will pull what Cesca calls a "Hollywood movie style presidential speech" moment, where he essentially rallies America to get behind a muscular insurance reform package and calls out the spineless in Congress who stand in the way of universal health care.

Am I assuming too much?

Maybe.

But I'll say this: If he does it, from now on he'll officially be the political equivalent of TV's Dr. House -- the guy who always leaves you wondering why anyone supposedly on the same side he is ever questions him. When they do -- when they argue with his methods -- you'll just think to yourself, "Yeah, but they always work -- the man's always right. Now sit down and shut up."
