Back when Patrick Swayze first announced that he'd been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, I wrote this:
"Say what you will about Swayze, but think about it -- how many actors do you know who've managed to appeal to just about everybody at one time or another? Guys love the silly, kick-ass genius of Red Dawn and Point Break; women love the unabashed schmaltz of Ghost and Dirty Dancing. Hell, even the new generation of overly-ironic emo kids loves Donnie Darko"
His death at the age of 57 truly is sad. And, man -- the Grim Reaper can stop his 2009 rampage anytime now.
That said, it was still kind of funny to hear Anderson Cooper say, "Most of us came to know Patrick Swayze for the first time in Dirty Dancing," last night. Yup, I'm sure you did, Coop.
