You've kinda gotta love Dick Cheney these days; he's pretty much doing the job of federal investigators for them:
"I certainly have every reason to believe that (George W. Bush) knew a great deal about the program. He basically authorized it. I mean, this was a presidential level decision. And the decision went to the president. He signed off on it."
That's Cheney talking about the torture -- or as he euphemistically calls it, "enhanced interrogation" -- of foreign detainees during the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. I swear, every day that passes Cheney mutates a little more from his already ghastly gila monster-like self into a real-life version of Col. Nathan Jessup -- Jack Nicholson's sadistic Marine commander in A Few Good Men. He not only refuses to offer any kind of remorse or acknowledgment that the tactics undertaken by the Bush Administration in regard to prisoners of war may have violated every principle America stands for -- but put a mic in front of him and he'll be happy to casually boast about it.
Bottom line: He just named George W. Bush as having ordered acts that essentially qualify as war crimes -- and he did it on national television.
Why the fuck is the FBI not kicking in both Bush and Cheney's doors right this second?
And why, for that matter, is anyone, on the right or left, continuing to listen to a man who left office with a 13% approval rating at all?
Speaking of which, how about one more bit of sage wisdom from Cheney's appearance this morning on CBS's Face the Nation. When Bob Schieffer asked him who he'd choose to represent the Republican party, Rush Limbaugh or Colin Powell (because Limbaugh, a fat, drug-addicted talk radio host, had the balls to condescend to Powell, an honest-to-God war hero, last week by suggesting that he get out of the GOP and just go become a Democrat), Cheney responded with this:
"If I had to choose in terms of being a Republican, I'd go with Rush Limbaugh, I think. I think my take on it was Colin had already left the party. I didn't know he was still a Republican."
All I can say is: Keep up the good work, Dick. Just like Limbaugh, you're ensuring that the Republican Party will never be more than the party of 13%.
And considering its present incarnation, that's great news.
