This Saturday, I'll leave for New York City for a quick trip to pick up Inara and bring her to Miami for the winter (which, now that I think about it, will make her just like every other New Yorker).
To say that I can't wait to see my daughter and that I'm looking forward to spending almost two months with her is the most gargantuan of understatements. The truth is that having her with me for Christmas is going to be the only gift I want or need -- the only thing that matters.
For a long time while we were together, there's a song I always played around this time of year that would never fail to make me think of Jayne; she may not even have known it, but I considered it our Christmas song, my song dedicated to her. I guess now I have no choice but to make it my song for Inara -- and in a way it fits pretty well, all things considered.
It's not just one of my favorites from Billy Joel -- it's one of my favorites period.
