Your daily Today Show update:
The cast of the new Broadway musical Memphis just popped by to perform an unfortunately groan-inducing number in the Today studio. The show's about a white Memphis DJ who becomes enraptured with the largely verbotten sound of R&B during the 1950s and, of course, falls in love with a black singer. According to the review in the New York Times, entirely predictable hijinks ensue.
The musical was written by none other than Dave Bryan, keyboard player for Bon Jovi -- whose real name is David Rashbaum.
Because if anyone understands the tumultuous and racially charged South during the 50s -- and the soulful music that was the soundtrack to it -- it's a Jewish guy from New Jersey.
