SEAL of Approval

Just wanted to mention a couple of things about the SEAL team that took out bin Laden.

First of all my father was a SEAL, and what's interesting is that he really fits the profile of the members of the storied and mysterious Team Six: he's not gung-ho and never has been; on the contrary he's very cerebral and methodical, almost to the point of being -- as my friends in high school used to joke -- kind of Vulcan. He notices everything going on around him at all times and whenever you spend time with him you get the impression that he's never letting his guard down. Oh, and he's a dead shot. Seeing what these guys are capable of -- what their training can do when put into action -- makes me very proud of who they are, that they're on our side, and of course, that my dad can count himself among their veterans.

Second, finding out that this particular SEAL team is the same one that took out those three Somali pirates back in April of 2009 -- with one shot each from three snipers -- just gives me a visceral thrill. Sorry, I get that the death of anyone is at least somewhat tragic and all that. But once again, these guys are absolute bad-asses -- and they're ours.

Rangers lead the way and the Deltas liberate the oppressed -- but when you want the most dangerous people in the world to die never knowing where the fuck that shot came from, you call in the SEALs.
