The big news-that's-making-the-news over at CNN right now is that network anchor Don Lemon has apparently come out of the closet. Obviously, if this is something he felt like he wanted or needed to do -- as opposed to being forced to, which he wasn't -- then I commend the hell out of him. Really, kudos on Lemon's willingness to be who he is and I hope it provides an example for others who may be grappling with their sexuality or who feel as if coming out will leave them at the mercy of the ridicule of others. Even in this day and age, incomprehensibly, it takes courage to come out, so Lemon deserves respect on this.
One question, though: Didn't Lemon also reveal not long ago that he was molested by a man when he was young?
I'm not in the mood to look up the research -- and I'm certainly not implying that everyone who's gay was molested -- but does anyone know the facts on the connection between molestation at a young age and homosexuality? I believe pretty strongly in the "born this way" theory but is it possible that someone can be "turned" -- to use surprisingly appropriate vampire lingo -- or do male pedophiles prey on boys who, even as kids, give off some kind of "vibe" (which seems ridiculous, given that pedophelia is about power more than any sort of sexual orientation)?
Lemon's back-story just sounds all too familiar.
Yes, I'm too lazy this morning to type in "Google." Do the heavy lifting for me.
