Listening Post

Perfect for a Sunday morning: two from Elvis Costello's brilliant 1989 album, Spike.

First up, one of my all-time favorite songs, not only from Elvis but period. I even used to sing this to Inara while dancing around the nursery with her in my arms.

Here's God's Comic.

Next, a song that holds such a special place in my heart that I titled one of the chapters in my book after it (which in an of itself was a kind of homage to Bret Easton Ellis, who has a fetish for naming his books after Elvis Costello songs: Less Than Zero and the forthcoming Imperial Bedrooms).*

This is Deep Dark Truthful Mirror.

*For the record, there are at least two other subtle and not-so-subtle references to Ellis -- specifically Less Than Zero -- in Dead Star Twilight. Given that I'm in the middle of our big Summer Pledge Drive and I'm trying to push book sales, maybe some sort of "Find the Hat Tip" contest is in order, no?
