Listening Post

I owe a huge debt of gratitude to my friend Steve Bunche -- comic illustrator extraordinaire, 70s porn aficionado, and ronin of all things cultish -- for reminding me of my love for one of the greatest undiscovered gems in all of pop music.

Last week on his blog, the Vault of Buncheness, he put together a list of what he called "The Sacred 25," or the 25 songs he simply couldn't live without. Included was a song I hadn't heard in years -- one of my favorites since I was a kid that I'd, ironically, almost forgotten about.

Cheap Trick's Reach Out.

Tucked away on the Heavy Metal soundtrack, this could very well be the best damn pop-rock song ever written. It's just so catchy.

This video features the original animated scene from Heavy Metal that accompanied the song, which in and of itself is a great little blast from the past.

Here's Reach Out.
