“As far as I’m concerned, if you make $2 million a week and you don’t have a hooker in your hotel room, you’re creepy and I don’t trust you. And I don’t do drugs at all, so for me it would just be more prostitutes. That’s how they would find me. I would be dead on the floor, flattened by a pile of prostitutes. I’d look like a cat in a hoarder's house.”
-- Jim Norton of The Opie and Anthony Show on the mugshot photo of a Long Island man arrested for allegedly molesting a dog, in which he appears to be wearing a New York Jets jersey
Various reports indicate that Mitchell Marsicano performed oral sex on the two-year-old Shiba Inu. The dog's name, by the way: Snowball.
"Putting a mosque at Ground Zero is like building a Benihana at Pearl Harbor."
-- Comedian Jim Norton, on a New York City community board's near unanimous decision to allow for the construction of a mosque within spitting distance (in more ways than one) of the former site of the World Trade Center
For the record, I see both sides of this issue and -- as much of a cop-out as this may seem -- I'm very much on the fence about it. Having been in New York City, at the World Trade Center site and with the families of the missing and dead, right after 9/11, I completely understand the outrage of many of them -- and think that it's more than justified. Putting a mosque at the exact place where the towers once stood feels grotesquely insensitive, given the undeniable link between the warped ideology adhered to by the attackers and the supposed "religion of peace" that is Islam. That said, I also get that the creation of a shrine to the very belief system the attackers midguidedly saw themselves as the defenders of would be a fun little of "fuck you" to their memories -- and to the extremists who still consider America the Great Satan. The thing is, I don't think the gesture would matter one bit to those in the Muslim world who despise us.
Man, Opie and Anthony make national headlines twice in a month. Never thought I'd see the day.
First it was the Sharon Osbourne-Susan Boyle row, now this: Yesterday morning on O&A's show on Sirius XM, Jim Norton got into a heated discussion with former wrestler and Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura that nearly turned into a fist fight. Ventura had been booked to promote his new TruTV reality show, Conspiracy Theory, but after almost two hours of contentious back-and-forth on everything from, yes, outlandish conspiracy theories, to military service, to war, to national and world politics, the shit finally hit the fan. It happened when Ventura made the claim that the 9/11 conspirators and all al-Qaeda terrorists should be treated the same way we treat American criminals and tried in a court of law; Norton, ahem, vehemently disagreed -- and that's when each of them started accusing the other of putting words in his mouth.
I was listening live and as it built to a crescendo, with Ventura finally standing up and walking out and Norton hurling obscenities at him as he left, my mouth was hanging open -- it was that tense and uncomfortable. Watching the actual video, though, which was posted on YouTube soon after, you realize that Ventura was about a half-second away from beating Norton to death.
