Picture of the Century

WINNING!

Behold, the very first tweet from Charlie Sheen. I'm trying to figure out the subtext here. I think it's basically that Bree will be naked soon and Charlie will be putting his giant chocolate-sized (if you get my drift) penis inside her. Either that or he'll just be covering her with "milk."

Either way, you know something?

This guy is GOD.

(Adding: Sheen just updated his profile pic and info on Twitter. His description of himself? "Unemployed Winner...." I think there should be some kind of official edict in Hollywood which states that Sheen has to be in everything. By the way, I've been sitting here refreshing his page every few seconds; at the current rate, around 2,300 new people are following Sheen every minute.)

Picture of the Week

(Thanks, Isa!)

Working Stiffed

I've mentioned this here a couple of times before, but I don't read right-wing pieces, listen to Rush Limbaugh's show, or watch Fox News just looking for something to piss me off. I have a life to lead and enough daily irritations that I can't imagine being lunatic enough to want to willfully pile more on my plate.

That said, a bitter and silly flame war is raging on Twitter right now between the usual suspects on each extreme of the political spectrum and somebody on the conservative side linked to an article in the Daily Caller that "tells it like it is."

The piece is such a staggering display of shameless Randian dickishness that it almost reads like a parody.

The Daily Caller: The Truth About the Wisconsin Protesters/2.28.11

This goes really well with that earlier clip from last night's Daily Show; the ability these guys have to blame the victim and keep a straight face while doing it just boggles the mind. When the political climate has made it okay to beat up on teachers, you know we're way down the rabbit hole.

This Is Not America

Stewart hits it out of the park almost nightly, but this one goes clear to the next town over.

Behold, these unbelievable assholes.

(Adding: Below is something almost as brilliant -- a well-earned shot at the increasing feckless absurdity of CNN's daytime lineup.)

Food (and Drugs, and Booze, and Women) for Thought

I just posted this as a comment on a Facebook friend's wall, during a discussion that had a couple of people playing the morality police and admonishing Charlie Sheen as "sick," and a "pathetic moron.":

"Why is Sheen pathetic, sad, a moron, whatever? Jesus, you pay a guy 2 million dollars A WEEK for doing essentially nothing and then, what, expect him to behave with humility? You really think he won't become a rampaging id with a God complex? Sheen's doing porn stars in the bathroom at Daniel and downing $2,500 bottles of champagne and believes he's invincible because, why shouldn't he? I always wondered, if you had the money and resources to live your life completely hedonistically -- and you had the ego to where the judgment of others didn't matter to you -- would it really be wrong or somehow immoral to live like it was one non-stop party? Who am I to suggest how someone else lives his or her life and to look down my nose at them disapprovingly? The only factor that I think makes Sheen's decisions very, very questionable is that he has children. Other than that -- good for him. Have at it. Lord knows I'm not gonna get to enjoy my life like that; I certainly don't see why I should pretend to be offended by his decision to as an adult. It's his life."

You can debate me on the truth behind the motivation for Sheen's insanely arrogant posturing -- in other words, you can be like any one of the cavalcade of pious "experts" the cable news channels have paraded out to comment on Sheen's behavior ad nauseam, saying that it's obvious how sad and lonely he really is -- but what if he is just having a hell of a good time with the admittedly unbelievably charmed life he's led? Morality isn't always a relative thing, but what if Charlie Sheen's decision to stop worrying even for a second about what anybody thinks of how he chooses to live is actually good for him?

Now, just for the hell of it because it seems so fitting, here's the Butthole Surfers -- The Shame of Life.

Two Men

You know, last night Votar and I were laughing over the fact that during Charlie Sheen's epically winning interview with Piers Morgan, Anderson Cooper teased that coming up he'd have an interview with a wildly unhinged and delusionally narcissistic despot that you just had to see to believe.

Votar's comment: "Aren't we watching that now?"

It wasn't much of a stretch for us to make that comparison -- and now the Guardian has put together a little quiz to see how well you know your messianic lunatics.

The Guardian UK: Charlie Sheen v. Muammar Gaddafi: Whose Line Is It Anyway?/3.1.11

If nothing else, these two can bond over the fact that they'd both like to see Haim Levine dead.

Listening Post

I'm not sure what's more surprising, that this isn't a group right out of the 60s soul era or that these guys aren't a British band paying homage to the retro acts of the 80s that paid homage to the 60s soul era -- à la ABC or the Blow Monkeys.

From right here in the states -- Los Angeles, in fact -- here's Fitz and the Tantrums with MoneyGrabber.
