Eating Disorder

Oh for God's sake. I don't care what race or ethnicity you are -- if your sensibilities are this fragile you need to stay the hell indoors and lock your door, for your own safety.

The Huffington Post: Controversy as NBC Serves Fried Chicken and Collard Greens in Honor of Black History Month/2.4.10

No, a black chef serving soul food in honor of Black History Month isn't racist. If they told her she couldn't sit at the counter where they were serving it, that would be racist.

Still, I think I may need to switch on the Bunche signal on this one and call on my good friend -- comic artist extraordinaire, pop culture ronin, vintage porn connoisseur, genius bar-b-cue chef and, yes, black guy -- Steve Bunche.

Bunche, can I get a ruling on this?

Next Friday

Sure Jason's back in theaters and making a bloody fortune (pun absolutely intended), but what's next in the Friday the 13th series?

My good friend Steve Bunche -- comic book artist extraordinaire and general pop culture ronin -- offers some truly inspired ideas, including a face-off between Jason and the barely pre-menopausal women of Sex and the City:

"The rest of the film would have Jason getting uselessly shot at by the NYPD, futilely attacked by the Guardian Angels and Curtis Sliwa -- whose head would be torn off and unceremoniously shoved up his ass -- and killing off the SEX & THE CITY gang and their assorted boy-toys one by one -- including a spectacular beheading during a cheesy Broadway revival of FLOWER DRUM SONG, in which Jason tears off the Samantha stand-in's head and dropkicks it onto the stage during the "I Enjoy Being A Girl" number -- until only the horse-faced Carrie stand-in (as played by a Sarah Jessica Parker lookalike, preferably a drag queen) remained."

Trust me: Read the rest of this. It'll make your day.

So Long and Thanks for All the Fail

I figure by now I've sufficiently delved into the enormity of George W. Bush's failure as president of the United States and therefore the significance of today, his last day in any sort of position to further fuck this country without Vaseline.

Still, maybe it's worth reminding everyone a final time (God, how that has a nice ring to it) of one of Bush's more endearing or irritating qualities, depending on your political perspective. And so, my good friend Steve Bunche -- talented artist, insightful social critic, and general pop culture ronin -- has compiled a list of the best examples of George W. Bush's affinity for murdering the English language.

Enjoy.

The President is Near

With everything going on lately, it's been a while since I've wandered over to visit my friend Steve Bunche at the Vault of Buncheness.

I'm so glad to see he mined comedic gold out of territory I'm not sure my pigmentally challenged ass could've trespassed on.

Take a look, and while you're at it make sure to check out the rest of Bunche's blog; it's required reading around these parts.

Where else can you find erudite views on comics, Japanese culture, bad film, and various kinds of porn all in one place?

Big Willie Style

If I did a regular "Picture of the Week," this week's would come courtesy of my friend Steve Bunche: great guy, talented comic artist, true original, purveyor and arbiter of all culture -- foreign and domestic, popular and obscure -- and noble modern-day Samurai.

I lift this shot from his excellent blog "The Vault of Buncheness." The picture was taken last week, as the marquee was being dismantled after the premiere of the new Will Smith vehicle Hancock in London's Leicester Square.

As Bunche puts it, "Now that's a movie I'd see."

For the record, it's good to know that no one will have to work overtime to come up with a title for this movie's all-but-inevitable porn knock-off.
