Listening Post: Bonus "Let the Weekend Begin" Edition

I already posted this song the minute audio for it was made available, being that these guys are one of my favorite bands in the world. Well, now there's a video for Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's Let the Day Begin, a cover of an excellent song from one of the most underrated groups of the 80s, the Call.

The late father of BRMC's Robert Levon Been, Michael Been, was the Call's brilliant frontman -- and doing this song is a great choice for the band, since it's wonderfully uplifting and a great tribute to the elder Been. The video reflects the joy expressed in the song perfectly. It also, I have to admit, kind of lets you know that this song is going to inevitably end up as a beer commercial or something like that.

Anyway, here's Let the Day Begin.

You can tell that the death of Robert Been's father -- Michael Been, leader of one of the most underrated bands of the 80s, The Call -- has had a lasting impact on him. The reverence, sadness and gratitude toward the elder Been can be felt all over Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's new album. The first single, Let the Day Begin, was an actual Call cover. Now comes this piece of uncharacteristically uplifting gorgeousness.

Here's the latest from Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. This is Returning.

Listening Post

Read this site regularly and you know that Black Rebel Motorcycle Club are just about my favorite band around. Their new album, Beat the Devil's Tattoo, is damn good -- but for some reason I woke up this morning and wanted to hear this.

And thanks to Vevo, the video now exists on YouTube -- embeddable and high-quality.

Here's Weapon of Choice.

Listening Post

By now, just about any reader of this site knows of my unwavering love for Black Rebel Motorcycle Club; they're pretty much the coolest band on the planet.

Well after posting yesterday's aural sex-fest from The Kills, I figured I'd put up a song that really holds a special place in my dark little heart. For reasons I'll never quite understand, I've always had a particular sexual fantasy that plays in my head whenever I hear this song from BRMC -- one of my favorite songs by the band, incidentally. It's such a "visual" piece of music -- all sensual, way-past-midnight bluesy swagger, lusty falsetto and purring guitars -- that I'm willing to bet just about anyone can do a little ESP and call to mind the same kind of images I do when I listen to it.

There's no video for this -- just the song itself. And maybe that's a good thing. Just close your eyes and see what pops into your head.

This is Killing the Light.

Anyone who comes here even semi-regularly knows that Black Rebel Motorcycle Club are just about my favorite band in the world these days (these days being the last five years or so).

Here they are in a live performance for MSN from Portland, Oregon.
