I'm not going to be one of those people who bitches about how Valentine's Day is a cynical money-making scam conjured up by greeting card companies or whatever -- all because I happen to be alone today and can't see myself changing that over the next couple of years, if ever really. (Sorry, but I simply don't think I'm capable of truly surrendering myself to something as ephemeral and potentially devastating as love anymore.)
But maybe somewhere very deep inside me there's still a willingness to believe that it's possible for two people to make love work and make it last -- as long as they know going into it that emotions are complex things, and love isn't always pretty.
