Listening Post

Fever Ray's self-titled debut album is one of the most haunting, mesmerizing and challenging musical experiences of the last few years -- and it's also one of the most vastly rewarding.

Here now, the first two tracks from that album. Above it's If I Had a Heart; below, When I Grow Up.

Assistant To the Quote of the Day

"Why not? Wouldn’t be the first time you pushed a black family out of their home."

-- Snoop Dogg to Donald Trump on his threatened run for the presidency in 2012

They're Digging in the Wrong Place

I had read this somewhere before, and wasn't the least bit surprised by it, but today ThinkProgress has run down the numbers which reveal that there have been more non-Muslim terrorism cases investigated since 9/11 than cases involving Muslims.

It's worth taking a look at and it casts a very nice little pall over the true rationale behind Peter King's Capitol Hill dog-and-pony show.

Bottom line: King's doing it because he's shit-pants terrified of those brown people and their weird god and so are his constituents, so why not cynically exploit that fear?

ThinkProgress: Almost Twice as Many Plots Since 9/11 from Non-Muslims/3.10.11

By the way, you know why you'd be inclined to believe that twitchy Muslims are the bigger threat when it comes to terrorism? It's a matter of perception. The math breaks down like this:

Brown, vaguely Arabic Muslim guy tries to kill innocent people to make a political statement = Terrorist

White, Christian guy tries to kill innocent people to make a political statement = Mentally unbalanced lone wolf

Quote of the Day

"There's no question at times of my life, partially driven by how passionately I felt about this country, that I worked far too hard and things happened in my life that were not appropriate."

-- Newt Gingrich, drawing on almost incomprehensible depths of shamelessness during an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network aimed at getting him off the hook for a quarter-century of philandering, cruelty and hypocrisy

Yes, you heard that correctly.

He fucked around on his wife because he loved America so much.

And I don't even remember getting a nice dinner and a night in a swanky hotel room out of it.

Hey, kids, it's new Strokes. Which sounds remarkably like old Strokes.

Here's Under Cover of Darkness.
