Listening Post

I've got three shows coming up, thanks almost entirely to my really wonderful girlfriend and her connections: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Fall Out Boy, and these guys, all at the Wiltern here in L.A.

Apparently, for this video, somebody said, "We really wanna make Hayley Williams look like Rooney Mara's interpretation of Lisbeth Salander." Also, for some reason I just noticed a couple of days ago how fucking incredible the drumming is on this track.

I posted this as an audio clip last month, but here's the video for Paramore's Now.

Been a good week for new music.

Here's the first single from Paramore's upcoming album and it proves that losing two founding members hasn't exactly taken the fire out of the band, because this is a pretty damn good song.

Here's Now.

Back to the grind with you, gerbils.

Here's the latest Paramore single. This is Careful.

Declothed

On the one hand, I feel really bad for her -- because she's Hayley Williams and we all know my thoughts on her.

On the other hand -- well, my other hand is busy.

I'm running out of ways to say how much I love this band.

As soon as I heard this song, I figured it would be released as a single because it's not only the best track on Paramore's most recent album -- it's one of the best pop ballads in many, many moons.

Here's The Only Exception.

Being that I'll turn 40 on Friday, I'm pretty sure my love for Hayley Williams now officially qualifies as really, really creepy.

Here's the new Paramore single, Brick By Boring Brick.

A while back I posted a clip of Paramore doing a really inspired cover of Failure's Stuck On You.

Well, I'll give Hayley and the guys credit; they've got good taste in other peoples' material. Here's Paramore, live on BBC Radio 1 (on Live Lounge, which kind of specializes in current bands playing other current bands' stuff), doing Kings of Leon's Use Somebody.

Paramore's new record is out today, incidentally. I like them. You should too, darn it.

As you nice folks know, I rarely post concert bootlegs, for obvious reasons. But this one looks and sounds remarkably good -- and, sorry, but you can never get enough Hayley Williams

Here's Paramore doing their new single live.

This is Ignorance.

(By the way, no it's not your imagination; yes I've been pretty scarce over the past couple of days. Hope to be back up to full capacity around here soon. Thank you for your patronage.)

How much do I like the new Paramore single?

Enough that I'm willing to overlook the fact that it comes from the Twilight soundtrack.

Here's Decode.

Listening Post: Cover Edition

Two truly inspired covers from unexpected places.

First up, I went looking for Elwood's ultra-cool hip-hop version of Gordon Lightfoot's Sundown, and lo and behold what did I find but a homemade video that someone had put together using clips from my beloved Firefly. Not really the best editing job, but who cares?

Here's Sundown.

Next, I have to admit that I actually like Paramore -- and that I kind of have a crush on Haley Williams (which officially makes me that really creepy guy).

Here's a video composite set to the band's surprisingly good cover of one of my all-time favorite songs: Failure's Stuck on You.
