Listening Post

This could very well be the most visually stunning music video of the last few years -- and together with the menacing drone of the song itself, it proves that even after all this time, Massive Attack still sit at the top of the trip-hop heap.

Here's Atlas Air.

Listening Post

When Massive Attack's Teardrop was released in 1998 -- it was the first single off the spectacular and evocative Mezzanine album -- I never thought it would eventually become as strangely seminal as it has. It's been made famous as the theme from House and has been covered at least twice -- including Jose Gonzalez's mind-blowingly powerful interpretation -- and now one of my favorite new bands has taken a shot at extending its reach.

Above, it's Civil Twilight doing Teardrop live.

And, below, it's the hypnotically gorgeous video for the original Massive Attack version -- featuring, of course, the Cocteau Twins' Elizabeth Fraser on vocals, who wrote the lyrics to the song as a tribute to Jeff Buckley.

There's just nothing cooler or more evocative than Massive Attack.

This is Inertia Creeps.

Listening Post

It's been seven years since Massive Attack released a proper album of new material and if you've got any musical taste whatsoever, you know that that's too damn long.

Heligoland is scheduled to hit stores and iTunes on February 8th, and this is the first single from the record. You know I'm often wary about posting bootlegs, but this one is for the most part excellent quality; it's a live performance in Brixton that includes Damon Albarn of Blur and Gorillaz. (He's one of several guest vocalists on Heligoland, including Hope Sandoval, Martina Topley-Bird and of course, Horace Andy.)

This is Splitting the Atom.

And here's the studio version of the song:

Listening Post

There's something so completely twisted about this that I just love. Consider it a Saturday Morning Cartoons/Listening Post combo.

Here's Massive Attack and Mos Def -- I Against I.
