I'm really surprised by just how much I like the new Jane's Addiction album. Songs like this are the reason why.

Here's the lead-off track on the record -- Underground.

Gonna be a good week for new music around here, which is good because I'm going to be out of the loop for the next couple of days.

Here's the really spectacular new single from Jane's Addiction.

This is Irresistible Force.

Yesterday I posted the fantastic new video from the Beasties, for a song which I'd put up earlier as an audio clip. So today let's hit you with another video for an advance audio file that was posted here a couple of months back, from another legendary band.

Here's the bad-ass new clip for Janes Addiction's End To the Lies.

This is kind of a rote statement for anyone who was into the alt scene and grew up when I did, but the first time I heard Jane's Addiction it was like the earth shifted on its axis. Their music acted as the perfect bridge between 80s metal and the incoming alternative revolution and blended the two genres seamlessly; it was trippy, it was daring, it was ferocious.

To this day, Jane's second album, Ritual De Lo Habitual, stands as one of the few masterpiece records -- near perfect albums that also act as a snapshot of the era -- released during my lifetime.

The band hasn't put out a full-length album since 2003's Strays -- which, while a good rock record, wasn't a good Jane's Addiction record -- but if this first single is any indication, the upcoming The Great Escape Artist should be a nice return to form. (The addition of TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek doesn't hurt, either.)

Here's End To the Lies.
