What Sanchez was actually trying to say is that it was fair to take something Erickson had said in a certain way -- meaning that he wasn't wrong in making a specific assumption, in "putting words" in Erickson's mouth.
But yeah, the way he said it made me spit Crystal Lite iced tea all over my computer.
